MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) revealed on Saturday that roughly Php5.22 billion is allotted for major national infrastructure projects for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in 2020.
DPWH Unified Project Management Office Operations and Technical Services Undersecretary Emil Sadain bared that the infrastructure developments aim to maximize the economic potentials and comparative advantage of the region.
Priority projects include road widening and rehabilitation of the damaged Basilan Circumferential Road and the reconstruction and upgrading of roads in Sulu.
Sadain said that the DPWH worked with the BARMM – Ministry of Public Works (MPW) in identifying priorities. He reassured that their strategic regional needs are taken into consideration for the national plans and vice versa, that regional plans are in line with national priorities.
The multi-billion development plan is expected to change the living conditions of the Bangsamoro people. (HGBH/LMO)
