Manila Mayor Isko Moreno honored Patrolman Jonathan Stanley Dionisio by rewarding him Php20,000 on Monday at the Manila City Hall. The policeman went viral after a concerned citizen posted on social media a video of him chasing a suspected snatcher.
The dash camera video showed how Dionisio bravely chased a suspected snatcher in Lawton alone last Friday, August 2. He ran after a man suspected of snatching a jeepney passenger’s gold bracelet. Dionisio finally caught up with the suspect.
After the arrest, however, the victim failed to pinpoint the suspect as the snatcher. In the end, the suspect was released.
Moreno believed the incident did not come in vain.
“What matters most is the job,” the mayor said. He stressed that Dionisio did not hesitate to do his job. He also noted that the Philippine National Police had earlier commended Dionisio for his dedication to his duty as a policeman.
Moreno hoped that more policemen would be like Dionisio.
“Sana ito maging Gremlin; kapag nababasa dumarami (I hope he will become a Gremlin; when drenched, it multiplies),” he emphasized.
Dionisio is a member of the Special Mayor’s Reaction Team of the Manila Police District. (CA/LMO)
